Why adopt a small-breed dog?

Apartment-friendly

Small dogs can be a good fit for condos, apartments, and smaller homes when their exercise and training needs are met.

Longer companionship

Many small breeds live 12–16 years, making adoption a long-term commitment and a long-term joy.

Practical care

Food, prevention, travel, and supplies are often easier to manage for small-breed dogs.

Are you a physical shelter?

No. NBS Animal Rescue is 100% foster-based. Dogs live in private foster homes, not in a public kennel or shelter building.

Where do meet-and-greets happen?

Meet-and-greets are coordinated by appointment after an adoption application is reviewed.

What small breeds do you rescue?

Common breeds include Yorkies, Chihuahuas, Maltese, Shih Tzus, Poodles, Pomeranians, and small-breed mixes.

Do you only adopt in Michigan?

We primarily focus on southeast Michigan so our team can support each adoption well.
